Clergy Abuse Coverup within the Protestant Church

The media reported sexual abuse within the Catholic Church in recent years. The concentrated efforts to minimize abuse and deny that it was carried out recently came to light in judicial cases and in accusations of victims. However, few reports reveal the sexual abuse of the clergy within the Protestant Church. The victims report the sexual abuse of the clergy in several denominations within the Protestant Church. Contacting a lawyer experienced in clergy abuse is an important first step to seek justice for abuse and to help protect others from experiencing the same trauma.

Clergy Sex Abuse in the Catholic Church

Recent reports indicate that there were decades of abuse by priests and other leaders of the Catholic Church that were not previously informed and did not take before court. The sources indicate that some Americans know or listen to some information about sexual abuse within the Catholic Church.

A clergy abuse lawyer often presents these cases to the Court. Sometimes, the cases document the abuse that occurred years ago when the victim was a child. The priests often reassured or reassigned once the courts or information of the media releases on their crimes committed as a member of the clergy.

The cover -up continues, as seen in the case of an archbishop who retained his position, despite the criticism of the way he handled scandals of sexual abuse. The archbishop, says Associated Press, received what is equivalent to a spiritual waiting time of Pope Francis. The “waiting time” lasts less than five months.

The cover -up and denial of the abuse of the clergy does not occur exclusively in the Catholic Church. The abuse of the clergy occurs in the Protestant churches, and as in the Catholic Church, the Church is often minimized or covered by the sexual abuse committed by the members of the clergy.

The 2016 resolution book of the United Methodist Church indicates that “annual conferences” can cite examples of child sexual abuse and exploitation within the Church. It indicates that the churches are “torn” by the legal, monetary and emotional consequences of the accusations of abuse. There are statements of recommendations for local churches on children protection and prevention of child sexual abuse. There is also a statement that local churches must have civil liability insurance that includes coverage for sexual abuse.

The South Baptist Church has the distinction of having more than 200 of almost 400 accused and volunteer leaders who declare themselves guilty or condemned by inappropriate sexual behavior. According to the reports, the South Baptist Convention refuses to take the necessary measures to stop abuse. They claim that each church must act independently to stop abuse.

The victims supposedly received the pressure from the church leaders so that they do not denounce the abuse.
